Chapter History

Gamma Sigma Chapter became a chartered member of National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. on February 22, 1973. It was the 87th Chapter of the Sorority.  Arthur Mae Norris was the Supreme Basileus at that time and Leola Havard was the Regional Director of the Far West Region. Ester Grace McGlothen was the first Basileus of Gamma Sigma Chapter. She is pictured left with Claudette Whitson and Simmie Daniel. 

The other chartered members included: Willie Bell Brown, Charlotte Comead Cook, Aquilla Guy, Jacqueline Hall, Lorrayne Hall, Elsie L. Harris, Deborah Moore, Evelyn O’Quinn, Cheryl E. Pearson, Cassandra Smith and Edith Sullivan.


Through out Gamma Sigma’s 50 years, the chapter has provided outreach service to help support women shelters and people with special needs, including McDonald’s House.
